Staff canteens exempted from dine-in restrictions after 6pm

The Under Secretary for Food and Health, Dr Chui Tak-yi, said today that most canteens only used by employees will be exempted from dine-in restrictions after 6:00pm.

He said some employees who work for companies that are in remote locations or require 24-hour coverage have practical difficulties to go outside to eat and have to dine in staff canteens.

The canteens must only be used by employees and not opened to the public, and the exemption does not cover canteens in factories.

Also, for restaurant employees, they can dine inside the restaurant after 6:00pm, but there must be designated areas with barriers separating the public and employees.

As the number of coronavirus cases spiked recently, the government has banned dine-in service at restaurants between 6:00pm and 5:00am.

Tsui pointed out that since the start of this month, there have been more than 300 new cases, and over 60 percent are local cases.
