RTHK puts hirings, promotions on hold

RTHK said today that it will suspend the recruitment of new civil service staff, and the promotion of existing workers pending the outcome of a review by a dedicated team appointed by the Commerce and Economic Development Bureau.

In an internal letter, the station urged all staff to assist and support the dedicated team, which will start work next week to ensure that RTHK's public broadcasting services abide by the station's charter.

The letter said the RTHK will take into account the result of the review – expected in about six months' time – before resuming the hiring and promotion of civil servants.

Earlier this week, the government announced former Permanent Secretary of the Chief Executive's Office, Jessie Ting, will spearhead the team.

Other members include the Assistant Director of Broadcasting, Albert Cheung, as well as serving and retired government staff.
