The Chief Secretary, Matthew Cheung Kin-chung has written to the Legislative Council president, Andrew Leung Kwan-yuen, urging the legislature to complete scrutinizing 31 bills and resolutions before the summer recess in July.
Cheung said there are still nine weeks and eight meetings left for this Legco session, and the bills and resolutions include the National Anthem Bill, banning the sale of electronic cigarettes and endorsing Andrew Cheung Kui-nung as Chief Justice.
He said they will be invalid if they are not passed at the end of the current session, and that the government hopes Leung can consider the congestion of agenda items when making meeting arrangements and urges lawmakers to lose no time and complete the legislative processes as soon as possible.
