HK readies outbound travel ban for all countriesLocal | 17 Mar 2020 10:18 am
Chief Executive Carrie Lam Cheng Yuet-ngor has announced that the government will issue a red outbound travel alert for all countries, except China, Taiwan and Macau, today, as the new coronavirus has become a global pandemic, RTHK reports.
She urged all Hong Kong residents to avoid non-essential travel, as all arrivals will have to undergo a compulsory 14-day quarantine from Thursday "so that previous efforts won't go to waste.''
It's the most drastic step yet by the government to contain the virus in Hong Kong.
In the past two week, 50 of 57 people diagnised as infected have come from overseas, Lam noted.
Lam also said it's unlikely students will return to school on April 20.
