US chip giant Nvidia’s chief executive Jensen Huang Jen-Hsun arrived in Beijing on Thursday on the invitation of a state-owned trade body, two days after the new US semiconductor export curbs were announced.
The arrival is reported by Yuyuan Tantian, a media account affiliated with China Central Television.
The invitation was issued by the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade – also called the China Chamber of International Commerce – a trade body founded in 1952 and controlled by the Ministry of Commerce.
This marks Huang's second visit to China in three months, following his previous statement pledging continuous cooperation with the country.
The visit comes just two days after the US Commerce Department announced new export licensing requirements on Tuesday for Nvidia’s H20 and AMD’s MI308 AI chips, as well as their equivalents, which President Donald Trump claimed as part of efforts to safeguard national and economic security.
The H20 is a "downgraded" version of Nvidia’s chips, legally sold in mainland China after the latest round of US export controls took effect in October 2023.
