Hong Kong's "flying fish" Siobhan Haughey continued her dominance in the third and final session of the World Aquatics Swimming World Cup held in Hungary's capital, Budapest, as she snatched yet another gold medal in the 100 meters freestyle event.

Haughey, who has already won gold in the 100m freestyle event in the two previous legs held in Berlin and Athens, eased through the heats with the fifth quickest time of 54.52 seconds.

The 25-year-old double Olympics silver medalist subsequently put her extraordinary form on full display in the final and had to build a comfortable lead after just 50 meters.

The lead only grew wider, and Haughey eventually finished the race in 52.24 seconds, beating current world record holder Sarah Sjostrom from Sweden by 1.01 seconds.

The victory took Haughey's medal tally to nine in total across three legs of this year's Swimming World Cup, with six golds, two silvers and one bronze, so she sits second in the women's individual rankings with 166.4 points, 11 behind Australian Kaylee McKeown.

Apart from the nine medals Haughey also broke the Hong Kong record in 50m freestyle, the Asian record in 100m freestyle and World Cup record in 200m freestyle.

Her results also put the SAR ninth out of 20 teams in the medal standings, with two golds and one silver. Australia tops the table with eight golds followed by China with five.

Elsewhere in Hangzhou, swimmer Tang Wai-lok broke the Asian Para Games record in the S14 200m freestyle to snatch Hong Kong's first gold medal in Hangzhou in style.

The city's two other swimmers Cheung Tsun-lok and Wong Hon-yin seized the two remaining spots on the podium.

The 26-year-old Tang finished the race in one minute and 56.76 seconds, while Cheung only trailed behind him by 0.58 second. Wong was in third place, narrowly edging out fourth-placed South Korea's Lee Inkook by 0.12 second.

In a statement issued in the evening, Secretary for Culture, Sports and Tourism Kevin Yeung Yun-hung congratulated Tang for being the first athlete to win the first gold for Hong Kong in Hangzhou, alongside other athletes who have been getting good results in the para games.

Meanwhile, Hong Kong snatched two bronze medals on the opening day of this year's Asian Para Games.

Thirteen-year-old swimmer Ng Cheuk-yan snatched the SAR's first medal by bagging a bronze in the women's S6 100m backstroke event, She finished the race in one minute and 33.37 seconds, following winner Jiang Yuyan of China.

Ng said later: "I was very nervous and also thrilled when I stepped into the venue. I was aiming to set a good time in the 100m breaststroke event, but I never thought I would manage an even better time in the 100m backstroke."

Meanwhile, wheelchair fencer Alison Yu Chui-yee is also on the right track to keep her promise to snatch six medals for Hong Kong in the Asian Para Games by taking a bronze in the women's foil.

She was edged out by China's Gu Haiyan 15-4 in the semi-final.
