Around 20 wild boars raced down Shum Wan Road in the Southern district, according to a video which went viral online.
The boars, which included adults and children of smaller sizes, ran about 100 meters towards a taxi. Some lingered after they found food on the road.
Some netizens found it funny and compared it to horse racing.
“Are they racing to Sha Tin Racecourse?” One joked.
Another compared them to fans chasing after their idols inside a vehicle.
But others said the boars might have gathered there due to people feeding the wild animals illegally.
Residents who live near Shum Wan had complained about the boars turning over rubbish bins when they looked for food.
Lawmaker Steven Ho Chun-yin said the laws over wild boars are unclear, and fines for illegal feeding do not have enough of a deterring effect.
There should be efforts to educate the public against feeding the animals, he said.
