Two days after saying there are no more coronavirus infected patients in the capital, authorities in Beijing reported one new confirmed case on Wednesday.

Local authorities said at a press briefing today, a 52-year-old man surnamed Tang in Beijing's Xicheng District was diagnosed as infected with the new virus and has been transferred to hospital, state network CGTN reports.

On Tuesday, Beijing officials said the capital cleared all its domestically transmitted coronavirus cases as the last patient was discharged from hospital on Monday, Xinhua reported. No new confirmed patients, suspected cases and asymptomatic cases were reported in the Chinese capital on Monday, according to Beijing Municipal Health Commission.

The Beijing resident rode his bicycle to the hospital alone wearing a mask on Wednesday afternoon after feeling cold and exhausted. He did not have a cough or congestion at that time. His coronavirus test was confirmed positive Thursday, said Miao Jianhong, deputy head of Xicheng district, China Daily reported.

Tang had not been out of Beijing during the past two weeks and reported no close contact with people from other cities. His two family members are now under medical observation.

The residential community where Tang lives has been closed-off.

The new case occurred after the capital city saw no new locally transmitted cases for 56 consecutive days.
