Hang Seng Index jumps by noon

Hong Kong stocks jumped by midday on Tuesday.

The benchmark Hang Seng Index surged by 468 points, or 1.8 percent, to 26,815 points by noon. The half-day market turnover was HK$162.7 billion. 

The Hang Seng Tech Index rose 2.2 percent to 5,868 points at noon.

Cathay Pacific Airways (0293) slumped 3.7 percent on Air China’s (0753) offload.

In the mainland, the Shanghai Stock Exchange Composite Index jumped 1.1 percent to 4,069 points and the Shenzhen Stock Exchange Component Index increased by 0.81 percent to 13,940 points at the midday close.
