Six men were injured on Monday morning after an engine explosion aboard a Marine Department vessel at the government dockyard on Stonecutters Island.
The incident occurred at around 10.30am while the vessel was docked for its annual inspection. Crew members were conducting checks on the engine when it suddenly exploded.
The six injured crew members, aged between 23 and 67, remained conscious and were taken to Princess Margaret Hospital for treatment. Some sustained minor abrasions to the face, hands and legs.
The vessel involved was identified as Marine Department ship MD-1, which had been berthed at the dockyard for routine annual maintenance. Initial assessments suggest the blast was caused by an engine malfunction.
Police and firefighters arrived at the scene at about 10.45am. The Fire Services Department dispatched four fire engines, while four ambulances were sent to transport the injured.
