Hang Seng flat at close

Hong Kong stocks closed flat in quiet trade as investors remained cautious after China revealed yesterday that inflation had jumped in February.

The benchmark Hang Seng Index edged 18.46 points lower to 21,209.74. Turnover was HK$48.29 billion.

Chinese shares closed down 1.24 percent, with the Shanghai Composite Index, which covers both A and B shares, off 37.87 points at 3,013.41 on turnover of 84.4 billion yuan (HK$95.9 billion).
