Hang Seng Index gains 1.4pc

Hong Kong shares snapped a four-session loss to end 1.41 percent higher, spurred by gains in mainland financial issues on optimism that Beijing will extend its loose monetary policy until next year.

The Hang Seng Index closed up 315.55 points at 22,771.39.

The China Enterprises Index of top locally listed mainland Chinese stocks rose 2.22 percent to 13,625.06.

China Construction Bank (0939) advanced 4.08 percent and ICBC (1398) rose 3.26 percent.

Turnover was HK$51.9 billion.
