A 47-year-old woman, surnamed Lee, was confirmed dead after she was rescued from the waters near Peng Chau on Friday morning.
The incident occurred shortly before 8am today, near the Peng Chau Sports Centre at 6 Po Peng Street, Peng Chau. Officers from the Cheung Chau Division discovered Lee floating in the sea approximately 5 meters from the location.
Firefighters quickly responded to the emergency call and rescued Lee, who was later pronounced dead at the scene.
Preliminary investigations suggest that Lee might have accidentally fallen into the sea while attempting to board a boat at a nearby pier. An autopsy is scheduled to determine the exact cause of death.
Police officers who examined Lee's body found no suspicious injuries, and there were no signs of struggle or robbery at the scene.
It is understood that Lee, an employee at a fast-food chain in Discovery Bay, could not swim. She had good relationships with both her neighbors in Peng Chau and her colleagues.
The police believe that she accidentally fell into the sea after work while trying to board a ferry. The case will be followed up by the officers from the Cheung Chau Division.
