The No. 3 alarm fire in Aberdeen was put out at 8.55 pm yesterday, almost five hours after it started.
Authorities received reports of the fire at 4.11 pm, with the fire upgraded to a No. 3 alarm at 4.45 pm.
According to the Fire Services Department, fiberglass boats inside the shipyard exacerbated the spread of the fire, while the sheer size of the shipyard also made it difficult to bring the fire under control.
The department mobilized 228 firefighters and paramedics to fight the blaze. Four fire boat monitors, four jets and breathing apparatus teams were also deployed.
Police said 32 men and 29 women were evacuated due to the fire and no injuries were reported.
Firefighters on Saturday morning continued to spray water at the scene to prevent the fire from reigniting.
