Two cases of suspected drowning in Sai Kung, one dead and one missing

Police were alerted to two different cases of suspected drowning in Sai Kung on Wednesday night.

Around 7 p.m. yesterday (Sept 27), a diver diving near the Sharp Island coral reefs found a man in swim trunks floating in the waters having no reaction and contacted the police for assistance.

The police arrived to rescue the man, with an ambulance on standby near the marine police base.

The man was unable to be located, and the cause of the incident is under investigation.

Separately, five hours prior, at 2 p.m. on the same day (Sept 27), a fisherman found a man wearing jeans and sneakers laying near the rocks of the Sharp Island shore.

The police arrived after being contacted and determined the man deceased.

They could not find a suicide letter or identification documents near the location.

The cause of death is pending an autopsy.
