It's Fun Q&A│Hong Kong's Legal System

Only police officers and lawyers can safeguard national security? How do we take our first step in safeguarding national security? Is Hong Kong the only region with a National Security Law? Are the National Security Law in other countries more stringent?

1. Do you need to be a police officer or lawyer in order to safeguard national security?

National security is everyone's responsibility. You don't need a specific profession to contribute — it starts with loving your country. Simple actions like respecting the national anthem and flag, being a law-abiding citizen and student, following school rules, cultivating legal awareness and learning about national security knowledge are already the first step to safeguarding national security.

2. Is Hong Kong the only place with a National Security Law?

Many Western countries who have been suppressing Hong Kong for implementing the National Security Law actually have their own versions of the National Security Law. Let’s take the UK as an example, they have already enacted a National Security Law of their own back in the 19th century, while they also enacted a more-stringent version in July 2023, with broader coverage and harsher penalties.

Yet, Britain has all along been relentlessly attacking Hong Kong for implementing the National Security Law and related legislations, just like a neighbor who yells at you for dropping a piece of tissue paper and threatens to complain to the security guards while dumping bags of trash everywhere themselves. Hypocrisy? Absolutely.
