A hat-trick by Gareth Bale powered Tottenham to a 4-0 win over relegated Sheffield United and kept Spurs in the hunt for a top-four finish in the Premier League.

The Welshman opened the scoring in the 36th minute with a flick. He doubled the lead just past the hour with a stylish finish into a top corner and made it 3-0 soon after with another left-footed effort.

Son Heung Min completed the rout.

Tottenham's second league win under interim boss Ryan Mason took them above Liverpool and West Ham into fifth place.

"You have to take your chances," Bale said.

Elsewhere, striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang scored on his first start since recovering from malaria as Arsenal won 2-0 at Newcastle.
