3 Hong Kong leads industry in developing 5G business solutions, equipping leaders in four key industries to facilitate effective digital transformation and embrace the new normal.

In sync with the government’s Subsidy Scheme for Encouraging Early Deployment of 5G (Scheme), 3 Hong Kong has tailored innovative 5G corporate solutions to facilitate enterprises’ applications for the Scheme, thereby spurring their digital transformation.

To date, the operator has successfully assisted a number of companies in applying for the subsidy, including textile and clothing, construction, shopping mall management and performing arts organisations. A total of over HK$3 million has been granted to applicants with some of them obtaining the subsidy cap of HK$500,000.

Leveraging its strongest 5G network, 3 Hong Kong has designed a wide variety of solutions to meet the specific needs and requirements of the industries, such as 4K live broadcast and video conferencing, robotics, and mixed reality. Here are examples of how 5G transforms and benefits its customers.

4K video conferencing solution to expand business opportunities

Due to the cancellation of global textile exhibitions amid Covid-19, the international demand for textile products has dropped rapidly, hitting the industry hard.

With 3 Hong Kong’s assistance, the leading textile and clothing company Mandarin Enterprises has adopted 5G 4K Video Conferencing Solution at its office.

The solution includes a high-definition camera which allows the company to present precise colour and texture of the silk fabrics in details to buyers; a touch screen conference room phone to control the focus and shooting angle of the camera; a cloud-based video conferencing application to share contents during the meeting; and a 5G router to deliver ultra-fast and stable video over 3 Hong Kong’s 5G network.

Estella Kwan, Co-Founder and Managing Director of Mandarin Enterprises, says the deployment of 5G network technology is a key element of their business model and corporate strategy. “It swiftly and seamlessly provides our global customers with high-definition images of the texture, drape and print quality of the fabrics in the most timely and cost-effective manner.”

Elevating construction industry with 5G solution

As one of the largest contractors in Hong Kong, Paul Y. Engineering Group has successfully deployed 5G technologies in their business to enable model projection, annotation, remote support, video conferencing and training on site.

Due to the large file size, traditional Building Information Modelling can only be viewed on computers. By using 5G-BIM-Mixed Reality (MR) Solution, a technology that blends the real-world environment and computer-generated content, workers can visualise 3D MR images, compare architecture design and onsite situation, conduct clash detection, preview building process and experience the sense of project completion in real time on their devices.

“Defects from planning and design can be detected at the earliest opportunity to save time and cost, where additional construction materials and waste in case of project modification are eliminated to improve environmental efficiency,” says James Lee, Chief Executive Officer and Executive Director of Paul Y. Engineering Group.

Building a smart mall with robotics solution

Fortune REIT is the first real estate investment trust to own properties in Hong Kong. Its flagship mall, +WOO in Tin Shui Wai will adopt 3 Hong Kong’s 5G Smart Robotic Solution in the daily operation. The solution includes a smart robot and a set of AI cloud systems.

“We are delighted to receive subsidy from the government for 5G co-operation with 3 Hong Kong, making +WOO among the pioneer malls in Hong Kong to introduce the 5G smart robot,” says Justina Chiu, Chief Executive Officer of Fortune REIT.

Leveraging 3 Hong Kong’s 5G network with ultra-fast speed and super-low latency, a smart robot can display information and promotional offers on-screen, analyse customer enquiries and search useful information to give an instant response in corresponding language.

What’s more, the smart robot is equipped with auto navigation which enables it to bring customers to a specific shop and act as a patrol security guard during non-business hours.

4K live broadcasting solution for the performing industry

Nowadays, the trend of corporations using online streaming services is on the rise. Yet, the quality and functionality of the major platforms are insufficient to support business events or performances. Pixelation, lags, buffering are some of the common issues that often occur during the live stream, leaving an unpleasant watching experience to audiences.

“The Covid-19 pandemic has presented an unprecedented challenge to the arts and culture sector. Performances have been cancelled or postponed,” says David Tsui, Executive Director of Hong Kong Dance Company.

By adopting 3 Hong Kong’s 5G 4K Broadcasting Solution, the company can conduct online classes during the pandemic with customised charging options.

Students can join classes anytime, anywhere to enhance learning efficiency. In addition, the solution allows Hong Kong Dance Company to live broadcast rehearsals and performances with 5G technology with ease. Audiences can enjoy dance performances with smartphones, tablets, computers and TVs online at home in real time.

One-stop support for enterprises applying for the subsidy

3 Hong Kong has formed a dedicated team to help enterprises apply for the Scheme by creating a project implementation schedule and investment budget, and extending 5G coverage in related areas. Free professional consultation service and assistance with the submission of applications are also available.

The application deadline for the Subsidy Scheme for Encouraging Early Deployment of 5G has been extended to 31 May. Applicable enterprises will be subsidised to 50% of the actual cost directly relevant to the deployment of 5G technology, subject to a cap of HK$500,000.
