Arsenal and Chelsea reached the English League Cup last eight with wins over fellow Premier League sides.
Second-half goals by Calum Chambers and Eddie Nketiah gave Arsenal a 2-0 win over Leeds.
Chambers opened the scoring in the 55th minute as a substitute. His header looked to have been saved, but a video replay showed the ball crossed the line.
The second was a mis-hit by Nketiah.
Chelsea needed penalties to get past Southampton after being level at 1-1 on 90 minutes. They led through a Kai Havertz header just before the break, but Che Adams put the Saints level two minutes into the second half.
Reece James slotted in the decisive spot-kick as Chelsea won 4-3 on penalties.
League One Sunderland also had a shootout success, beating Queens Park Rangers 3-1 after a goalless 90 minutes.
