Sudden loss of big stars fails to stop Mavs, Nets

Luka Doncic scored 31 points as the Dallas Mavericks shrugged off the injury absence of Kristaps Porzingis to snap Utah's nine-game winning streak with a 111-103 NBA victory.

Doncic, 22, also had nine rebounds and eight assists for the Mavericks, who rolled to a fifth consecutive victory at the expense of the league leaders despite losing Porzingis just hours before tip-off because of a sprained right wrist.

But Dorian Finney-Smith stepped up for Dallas with 23 points and Jalen Brunson added 20 off the bench. Utah star Donovan Mitchell was limited to 16 points.

Elsewhere, Kyrie Irving scored 40 points, Jeff Green made two free throws with 3.7 seconds left and the Brooklyn Nets overcame the early loss of James Harden to beat the New York Knicks 114-112.

Harden returned after missing two games with right hamstring tightness but lasted just four minutes before having to leave again with the same injury.
