US golfer gives herself birthday gift in Shanghai

Sports | AGENCE FRANCE-PRESSE 21 Oct 2019

Danielle Kang capped her 27th birthday with a one-stroke win at the Buick LPGA Shanghai, fending off fellow American Jessica Korda for a second victory in the event.

Korda was overnight front-runner at 15 under, with Kang down by one in the second edition of the event. Both had finished the previous day six under par, but Kang's short game won through.

Kang said she had "never been more nervous" than on her last stroke at the 18th.

She shot a final-round 70 to finish on 16 under-par 272 while Korda, 26, had a 72 for 273.

It was Kang's third pro win after last year's Shanghai victory and the 2017 Women's PGA Championship in Illinois.
