New faces called up for HK women's clash with Fijians

Hong Kong will play Fiji and Samoa in a triangular tournament in Fiji as part of their buildup for the 2021 Women's Rugby World Cup qualification.

Hong Kong will play Fiji today and then take on Samoa on Thursday.

After qualifying for the Rugby World Cup for the first time in 2017, coach Jo Hull's squad is intent on returning in 2021.

"We are two years into our four-year Rugby World Cup cycle now, so this is a great opportunity for us to blood more new players," said Hull.

There are nine first-time call-ups in the squad - Riva Brill, Abigail Chan, Chan Hui-tung, Rachel Fong, Jasmine Fung Hoi-ching, Iris Lam, Liu Yuen-ting, Zoe Smith and Wong Kai-ying. With the sevens team also preparing for upcoming competition, overlapping with the 15s tour, only Colleen Tjosvold, Jessica Ho and Pun Wai-yan have been included from that squad.

Eight of the newcomers have been selected for the opener against Fiji, with Brill starting at flanker, Smith featuring on the wing, and Abigail Chan at full-back.
