HK rowers qualify for Rio in double scullsSports | 26 Apr 2016
Hong Kong rowers Tang Chiu-mang and Chiu Hin-chun qualified for the Rio Games after finishing third in the lightweight men's double sculls at the Asian and Oceania Olympic Qualification Regatta in Chungju, South Korea.
Tang and Chiu, who teamed up only after the Hong Kong trials, clocked six minutes, 29.76 seconds in finishing behind China (6:24.70) and Japan (6:27.79). Tang, 25, is no stranger to the course in Chungju, where he won two silver medals at the 2014 Asian Games.
But there was heartbreak for Lee Ka- man, 29, and her sister Lee Yuen-yin, 26, who missed out on a Games spot in the lightweight women's doubles sculls by 0.19 seconds. "I feel devastated for the women's crew," said coach Chris Perry. "They raced an absolutely fantastic race, and put in the fastest last 500 meters of any crew in the event."
Law Hiu-fung, 32, finished one place below the cut-off for qualifiers in men's single sculls.
