Two cyclones look set to be felt in SARWorld | Staff reporter 8 Sep 2021
Hong Kong can expect thunder and rain after twin cyclones Conson and Chanthu get closer to the SAR within days.
Conson was at noon yesterday southeast of Manila and set to strengthen into a severe tropical storm by the time it is 800 kilometers from Hong Kong on Friday.
Concon slammed into the eastern Philippines yesterday, unleashing winds of 120 km/h that caused power outages in several provinces.
It was forecast to move across the central Philippines today and into the South China Sea tomorrow and Friday, going in the general direction of Hainan to bring squally showers to the Guangdong coast.
Around 2,000 km to the east of Concon, Chanthu was forecast to intensify gradually and become a typhoon early on Friday. Chanthu is expected to move in the general direction of Taiwan and to be within 800 km of Hong Kong on Sunday.
Both storms should miss the SAR.
The Hong Kong Observatory forecast for the SAR in the next couple of days is mainly fine and very hot, with showers and wind developing on Friday and into the weekend.
