Mass escape through prison tunnelWorld | AGENCE FRANCE-PRESSE 21 Jan 2020
Seventy-six prisoners, many of them members of a Brazilian drug- and arms-trafficking gang, escaped from a Paraguayan prison.
The 40 Brazilians and 36 Paraguayans fled through a tunnel in the border city of Pedro Juan Caballero.
Justice Minister Cecilia Perez said it must have taken "several weeks" to dig the tunnel and it was clear staff "did nothing." So the warden was fired and dozens of guards arrested.
Most escapees belong to the First Capital Command, one of Brazil's big gangs. They included men who took part in a prison massacre last June.
