New York Governor Andrew Cuomo has declared a ban on all flavored e-cigarettes except tobacco and menthol after a nationwide spate of lung illnesses believed to be linked to vaping.
Nearly 400 people have come down with a potentially vaping-related lung illness, according to the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Six have died.
Investigators are still trying to determine a cause. Health officials have warned against buying vaping products on the street, using marijuana-derived oil and inhaling vitamin E acetate, an ingredient found in some vaping products.
New York's health commissioner, Howard Zucker, will make the ban formal this week, Cuomo said.
It would be the second state in the US to introduce such a ban. Michigan did so earlier this month.
