MTR Malls to support eSports this summer

Local | 3 Jul 2019

Summer is right around the corner, and to give the public a new source of entertainment as well as to support the blooming start-up sector of Hong Kong, MTR Malls have launched a one of a kind eSports race car tournament in partnership with Godzpeed Autosport, one of Asia’s leading professional racing simulation centres.

The simulation games can be experienced at 3 of MTR’s prime malls, including Telford Plaza and Maritime Square from 29 June to 25 August 2019, and PopCorn from 29 June to 28 July 2019, 12p.m. to 9 p.m., allowing the public to immerse themselves in the exciting world of eSports.

“MTR has always strived to support start-ups in Hong Kong,” says Mr David Tang, Property Director of MTR. “With ‘MTR Malls x Godzpeed’, we hope to further our efforts in helping to promote a blooming start-up culture in Hong Kong. Given it’s summer, it will also add new exciting elements to everyone’s entertainment for a fantastic season.

A series of contests will also be held from now onwards. The qualifying rounds will be held at all 3 locations from 29 June to 18 July, while the round of 32 and final round will both be held at Telford Plaza on 20 and 21 July respectively. The winner of the Hong Kong tournament will move on to battle other top teams in the first Greater Bay Area tournament later on.

The car racing experience is created with a state-of-the-art car racing simulator which allows the player to experience how it is like as if they are really racing on the tracks in the real world. There will also be STEM workshops for everyone to make their own mini race cars in July at all 3 MTR Malls.

“We are extremely grateful for this cooperating opportunity with MTR. At Godzpeed, it is our hope and dream to create a AAA-grade game from Hong Kong that will allow our wonderful city to leave a mark on the international stage of eSports, and this opportunity has brought us one step closer,” says Tristan Lo, Founder of Godzpeed.
