A naked man wandering around Tseung Kwan O yesterday grabbed female underwear from a shop before being arrested.

Many people reported seeing him first outside Po Lam MTR station and then in Metro City Plaza, where he was photographed. That was just before 10 am, and while most shops were not open at that time there were quite a few people in the mall.

One eyewitness talked of seeing a streaker snatch items of female underwear from a shop.

Police were called to the mall, and one officer was assaulted when he approached the man. It then took the efforts of several officers to subdue him.

After a preliminary investigation officers said the man stole three items of female clothing valued at HK$350 from a shop in the mall.

The suspect, surnamed Lam, 41, was arrested for indecent exposure, theft and assaulting a police constable.

The officer appeared to have sustained facial and leg injuries and was sent to Tseung Kwan O Hospital.

There have been several reports of naked men running around in recent weeks.

Among them, a naked man ran along the MTR track from Lai King Station in the direction of Kwai Hing Station on March 16.

Train services were halted and MTR staff pursued the man. But he kept running to Tai Wo Hau Station and then turned around and went back to Kwai Hing. About 30 minutes later he managed to slip away across a platform at Kwai Hing Station.

Another incident involved a naked man crossing a road in To Kwa Wan on February 23.
