A couple have gone missing after their fishing boat is suspected to have collided with an oil tanker near Lamma Island.

Their daughter, 36, filed a report at Aberdeen Police Station, saying she has been unable to contact her father Ho Yuk-ki, 66, and mother Lo So-mui, 62, since the incident on Tuesday.

Police took statements from the couple's family and friends yesterday afternoon.

Officers also went to Tin Wan near Aberdeen to gather information about the couple from other fishermen.

A cousin of the missing man said he last met the elderly couple on Monday night.

He believed the couple went out to fish after midnight.

At about 8.44am on Tuesday, a 97-meter oil tanker from the mainland collided with a local fishing boat 1.8 kilometers south of Lamma. The latter sank after the collision.

Firemen arrived within 38 minutes after receiving the collision report.

Rescue teams involving the Marine Department, Fire Services Department, Government Flying Service and Hong Kong Police Force conducted an air and sea search overnight.
