Six new arts and science bachelor programs, including one on artificial intelligence, will be launched at the University of Hong Kong in the next school year.
Aside from the program on applied AI, the new bachelor of arts and sciences degrees also cover areas like design, financial technology, global health and development, and social data science.
The university aims to lure 150 students to the new programs.
"The social data science articulation program runs for two years and is available to those who have already completed two-year associate degrees or higher diploma, while the other five programs, which run for four years, are available to Joint University Programs Admissions System applicants."
The programs were designed by 10 faculties, and the university hopes to employ the courses to nurture "globally-minded thinkers and leaders" equipped with interdisciplinary knowledge and skills.
The programs aim to help students develop an interdisciplinary mindset and learning approach, work creatively and use innovative ways to resolve problems, as well as acquire leadership skills.
"These programs will enable our students to start seeing the connections across disciplines," said Ian Holliday, vice president and pro vice chancellor of teaching and learning.
"Our ambition is to transform them into future social leaders. We want our graduates to be the ones actually seizing those opportunities, defining new industries, creating new employment opportunities for others, and really making a difference to Hong Kong and the wider region."
Students will also get a chance to participate in exchange programs involving renowned universities, including Yale, University of California Berkeley, University of British Columbia, London School of Economics and Political Science, and University College London.
They will also have the opportunity to apply for internships at Google, Nvidia, the World Health Organization, and the United Nations.
Interested students can submit their applications through JUPAS.
