Hong Kong International Airport has been rated the world's fourth-best airport -- one position higher than last year -- while Singapore's Changi Airport topped the global rankings for the sixth consecutive year.
It was the ninth time Changi won this prestigious title since 2000.
The latest rankings were compiled by British-based air transport rating organization Skytrax, which compared more than 550 airports worldwide.
The survey, conducted from August last year to February, canvassed 13.73 million travelers from some 100 countries, who were asked to rate their experiences related to airport facilities and services, including check-in, arrivals, transfers, shopping, security, immigration and departures.
This year, the top four are all in Asia. Behind Changi Airport, Incheon International Airport and Tokyo's Haneda International Airport swapped places from last year, coming in second and third respectively.
Ranked fifth to 10th were Hamad International Airport in Qatar, Munich Airport, Chubu Centrair International Airport in Japan, London Heathrow Airport, Zurich Airport, and Frankfurt Airport.
Chek Lap Kok airport did claim two firsts -- for "World's Best Airport Dining" and "World's Best Transit Airport."
However, the SAR failed to place among the world's 10 best airport terminals. Heathrow's Terminal 2 took top honors, followed by Munich's Terminal 2, Singapore's Terminal 3.
Travelers were also not satisfied with the luggage collection at Hong Kong International Airport. As a result, it did not feature in the top 10 in this category. The top two were both Japanese: Kansai International Airport, and Haneda Airport, with Incheon third.
In airport staff service, Hong Kong rose from ninth to sixth this year, while in airport shopping and cleanliness, it was ranked third and seventh.
Two SAR airport hotels remained in the world's top 10 -- Hong Kong Sky City Marriott (sixth), and Regal Airport Hong Kong (eighth).
Hong Kong was also among the top 10 in security processing and immigration, as well as leisure amenities.
"We will carefully study the ranking report of Skytrax, and will continue to improve services and facilities in the Hong Kong International Airport," a spokeswoman for the Airport Authority said.
She said the authority has been improving existing facilities at the airport, as well as using different technology in daily operations, to provide more efficient and convenient services to travelers.
