Stay away, Carrie nudges Jasper

Carrie Lam and her team are doing all they can do to encourage people to run in the Legislative Council election in December, but former Legco president Jasper Tsang was given the no-go.

In a forum yesterday, Lam spoke about Hong Kong's development in the next five years and urged people who are passionate about Hong Kong to come forward and take part in the election.

But then she turned around to Tsang, who was also one of the guest speakers, and jokingly asked him not to make a comeback. "You've been the Legco president, there's no reason for you to downgrade yourself and become a lawmaker again," she said to Tsang.

However, Lam's remarks on Tsang in her speech was not included in the transcript released by the Information Services Department.

Tsang, 74, was once named as one of the dark horses for next year's chief executive election.

But he has publicly said he has no intention to take part in the race to become the city's top leader.
