Opening rides to new rail link

Central Station | 25 Oct 2021

New escalators started rolling at Admiralty MTR station yesterday as the rail interchange is geared up for the targeted commissioning of the East Rail Line cross-harbor extension in June-July next year.

Among its other roles, Admiralty will become the new terminus of the East Rail Line, and yesterday's start of additional escalators sees it connecting passengers to the Island Line and Tsuen Wan Line platform levels.

The old escalators will be closed, at least temporarily. "When you travel on one of the new escalators you see part of the station's new atrium area," an executive said. The extension, which will provide services from Hung Hom to Admiralty via the new Exhibition Centre Station at Wan Chai North, will become the fourth cross-harbor rail line, connecting the northeast New Territories, central Kowloon and Hong Kong Island.
