The airport was yesterday again the stage for teary goodbyes as hundreds of Hongkongers left the SAR for the United Kingdom.
But there was also a hurried and harried air at Chek Lap Kok as this was the last day for a flight that would land Hongkongers in time for UK admission as non-BNO passport holders and allow them to live and work there for six months as they regularize their status.
For from now on it's back to applying and waiting for a BNO passport before booking a flight and heading to Britain.
Yesterday's heavy rain did not deter family members - and particularly grandparents - from seeing off children and grandchildren, with lots of hugs, sobs and kisses and questions about when they would meet again given the strains of the pandemic and political problems.
Students in school uniforms were also in evidence, bidding farewell to classmates who will now study and tackle life in a new homeland.
