The widow of late property tycoon Hui Sai-fun has died at the grand age of 103 - three years after her husband passed away.
The family chose to handle the funeral quietly. It was held on May 12 after the matriarch, usually referred to simply as Mrs Hui, died at Hong Kong Sanatorium and Hospital last month.
She had been a key figure in a story of connections that have marked Hong Kong's biggest family stories. She and her husband had two sons, Jenkin Hui and Julian Hui Chun-hang, and one daughter, Hui Suet-yuen. Jenkin Hui died in 2014 at age 75.
Julian Hui was married to Pansy Ho Chiu-king, daughter of Macau casino king Stanley Ho Hung-sun, then went on to make film star Michelle Reis his wife. Reis was dubbed the most beautiful Miss Hong Kong of all time.
It is reported that Hui Sai-fun had put HK$42 billion worth of property into a family trust fund and insurance policies. And Julian Hui and his wife were said to have collected HK$2 million every month for living expenses.
Hui Sai-fun was the youngest son of Hui Oi-chow, known as the "King of Ships," who started the family's fortune by importing foreign products in the late 1800s and early 1900s.
Hui Oi-chow swapped his shipping business to focus on property investment in the mid-1900s.
