After cold weather lingered until very recently summer arrived suddenly, with Cheung Chau recording a temperature surge to 35.1 degrees Celsius yesterday afternoon.
The island on the western side of Hong Kong was not alone in sweltering.
The observatory clocked up 34.9 degrees at Tai Mei Tuk while temperatures exceeded 33 degrees in Sheung Shui, Chek Lap Kok, Yuen Long, Tuen Mun, Kowloon City and Lau Fau Shan.
And most parts of the SAR reached 30 degrees or more.
Forecasters say hot conditions will continue over the next couple of days due to the influence of a southerly airstream, with temperatures up to 32 degrees and perhaps more in some places.
So people were reminded to stay hydrated.
