Black humor on trial falls flat

Central Station | 4 Mar 2021

Wan Chai district councilor Anson Lam Wai-man was criticized for showing poor taste when he tried to use black humor on the reality that the council's chairwoman, Clarisse Yeung Suet-ying, was one of 47 defendants charged with subversion.

Seated behind a plastic board during a meeting on Tuesday, Lam pretended he was jailed and jokingly asked his colleagues to "visit" him.

But fellow counselor Chan Yuk-lam criticized Lam for poor taste because she really couldn't laugh at the joke.

Yeung was discharged from hospital yesterday evening after fainting on Tuesday during the marathon court hearing on defendants' bail applications.
