Passengers can start linking their AlipayHK accounts to the MTR Mobile app in advance so that they can pay MTR fares by scanning a QR code from this coming Saturday.
The new QR code payment service will be launched at all 93 MTR stations. At least two entry and exit gates that accept the new service will be set up in each MTR station.
Passengers who wish to use the service can select "My Ticket" on the main page of MTR Mobile followed by choosing AlipayHK as the payment source, linking their AlipayHK e-wallet to the MTR app from yesterday.
Starting this Saturday, passengers can generate the QR code when they are on the way to the gates. They can then scan the QR code at the scanners similar to how they beep the Octopus Card.
