Canto or bust for new security law

Central Station | 2 Jul 2020

If you don't read Chinese, you won't be able to read the contents of the newly imposed national security law for the time being.

The new law became the first law to be gazetted without an English version when it was promulgated at 11pm on Tuesday night after it was passed by the National People's Congress Standing Committee in the morning.

The only English translation currently available is one that was provided by state media outlet Xinhua for reference.

It could have been that the final version was only given to the SAR government after it was passed and there was not enough time for an English version.

Or, as rumors suggest, is the move a bid to exclude foreign judges from the designated list of judges who can deal with national security cases?
