Muted performance wins Sigg PrizeCentral Station | 14 May 2020
Hong Kong-based artist Samson Young was hailed as the winner of the Sigg Prize and its HK$500,000 prize by Hong Kong's museum of visual culture M+.
Young's Muted Situations #22: Muted Tchaikovsky's 5th managed to impress the jury and is on view in the Sigg Prize 2019 exhibition alongside works by five other shortlisted artists at the M+ Pavilion until 17 May 2020.
The exhibit encourages listeners to focus on the sounds that often go unnoticed by having musicians mute the notes as they play Tchaikovsky's Symphony No. 5.
