Students get taste of government

Central Station | 18 Jul 2019

Secondary students were given the opportunity to shadow the Under Secretary for Financial Services and the Treasury, Joseph Chan Ho-lim, for a day on Tuesday.

Two students - one in secondary four and the other in secondary five - followed Chan wherever he went for a whole day to get a taste of what it would feel like to be a government official.

They joined the Financial Services and the Treasury Bureau's morning prayers, listened to Chan's talk at a conference organized by the Institute of Financial Technologists of Asia, met lawmakers and citizens, and discussed public policies with representatives from four industries.

They were surprised by Chan's tight schedule, saying they did not know there were so many responsibilities that came with being an official.

Chan said the students were proactive in asking questions and initiating discussions on various topics, and praised them for being passionate about social issues.
