Hard graft puts paid to skin game

Central Station | 16 Jul 2019

Crime doesn't pay! Twelve people who wanted to cash in and make quick bucks through beauty care products found that out the hard way.

Their plan to profit off counterfeit cosmetic and skincare products was foiled by customs.

Around 6,400 counterfeit cosmetics and skincare products worth HK$590,000 were seized.

Seven men and five women aged between 23 and 46 were arrested.

The products were sold for HK$16 to HK$340 each, 40 to 80 percent cheaper than authentic ones.

To fool people, the goods, which included facial water, cream, gels and moisturizers that closely resembled their real counterparts, were stocked next to them in some shops.

The products were discovered during a patrol, prompting officers to raid six pharmacies in Causeway Bay, Yau Ma Tei and Sheung Shui.
