Petition mocked for bad English

Central Station | 25 Jun 2019

A new White House petition asking the United States government to stop intervening in Hong Kong affairs has become a heated topic on the internet due to its improper use of English.

Netizens mocked the petition titled “Stop to intervene in Hong Kong!!!!!!” and said they were not sure if the petition is calling for no intervention or the United States government is to stop whatever it is doing to get involved in the city’s affairs.

The petition was created by KJ, who claims to be a member of a “silent group in Hong Kong representing the rest of the population not joining the protest.”

“As part of society, we work hard, we pay tax, we do constructive contributions to the community,” the petition said.

“We plead that through President Donald Trump will stop to support associations intervening Hong Kong in any form,” KJ wrote.

By 5.30pm yesterday, 552 people had signed the petition.

Some netizens said they were embarrassed just by reading it, while others treated it as a joke.
