Age is no barrier for Regina

Age is just a number for New People's Party chairwoman Regina Ip Lau Suk-yee as the 68-year-old said she isn't too old to run in the District Council elections in November.

Ip will be 69 when she plans to run in the election.

But this is just the beginning as she has also set her sights on putting her name forward in the "District Council super seat" constituency race during the Legislative Council election next year, which is only open to district councilors. "You might say [I am too old] to run for the chief executive, but now not even the District Council elections?

"How can this be?" Ip exclaimed in a radio program yesterday.

Asked if she would give way to political newcomers, Ip questioned why she should step aside for those who "are not necessarily as capable" as her.

To further illustrate her point, she noted that many members of congress in America are in their 80s.
