BOC to issue centenary notes

BOC Hong Kong has been given the green light by the regulator to issue commemorative notes next September to celebrate 100 years in Hong Kong.

Vice chairman Yue Yi, pictured, said the commemorative notes will feature Hong Kong elements.

"Our commemorative notes can compete with those issued by other banks," Yue said.

Yue said the number of the issuance will exceed that of HSBC's 150th anniversary banknote. HSBC issued two million notes with a face value of HK$150 last year.

This is the third time that BOCHK has issued commemorative notes.

Bank of China's 100th anniversary banknote with a face value of HK$100, issued in 2012 at HK$150 apiece, can still earn investors HK$650 each.
