Film judges not using noodle, blasts Lam

Movie mogul Peter Lam Kin-ngok, said naming Ten Years as the best film winner in the Hong Kong Film Awards was like saying a wonton noodle shop was the best restaurant in Hong Kong.

If I tell you the best restaurant in Hong Kong is a wonton noodle shop, would you be convinced? Is a movie by a new director better than one by best director [winner] Tsui Hark? Its really debatable. For me, I dont think so, the chairman and executive director of Media Asia Group told Now TV.

He said the judging rules should be changed. However, Chow Kwun-wai, one of the films five directors and who shot the Self-Immolator segment, hit back.

Its not a problem if you are not convinced by the result. But if you are going to amend the whole mechanism because you are not convinced, that is a problem this kind of thought is going to corrupt Hong Kong, he said.

People online also blasted Lam, saying there is no problem with a wonton shop. As long as the food is delicious, it doesnt matter, one wrote.
