New health chief sorry for flat changesCentral Station | 4 Jul 2012
New Secretary for Food and Health Ko Wing-man apologized to the public after becoming the latest official in Chief Executive Leung Chun-ying's team to be caught in the row over illegal structures.
The controversy over illegal structures deepened as East Week magazine, sister publication of The Standard, revealed that Ko knocked down an internal wall between two flats he owns in One Beacon Hill, Kowloon Tong, without prior permission, and a balcony wall.
Ko admitted he was negligent as he did not notify the authorities before he tore down the wall.
But Ko added he has already contacted "authorized persons" and the Buildings Department about it.
Leung is also facing questions over his Peak home. Chief Secretary Carrie Lam Cheng Yuet-ngor and Executive Council member Cheng Yiu-tong have asked him to give a detailed public explanation of the illegal structures found at his home.
