CLP sales increase in Hong Kong

CLP (0002) said its electricity sales in Hong Kong increased 4.1 percent to 27,506 gigawatt-hours in the first nine months from a year ago, and declared a third interim dividend of HK$0.63 per share, which remained flat year-on-year.

The power firm said demand improved as the government's vaccination program and the easing of social-distancing restrictions allowed more people to return to offices and schools. The hot summer weather also contributed to the power consumption.

For sales in the mainland, it said coal prices have continued to place further pressure on operating margins and contributions across all of CLP's coal-fired assets.

Chief corporate development officer Quince Chong Wai-yan had earlier said CLP will discuss with the government about next year's tariff and announce whether there will be a hike when appropriate.
