Two local supermarket giants are offering new loyalty program arrangements at a time when Hong Kong retail and catering operators suffer tighter lockdown restrictions during a resurgence in coronavirus cases.
Dairy Farm Group is offering rebates and member points in Hong Kong through yuu, a mobile app that integrates more than 10 retail chain brands. The platform is expected to attract more than one million members, said Ronald Wong, head of marketing of yuu.
This comes as its rival A S Watson, the operator of Watsons and ParknShop, announced it would offer rebates through the MoneyBack app, which has 3.7 million members. Customers can redeem masks at Watson stores and get discounts at over 1,000 third-party retail stores in Hong Kong, said the company.
Singapore-listed Dairy Farm recorded a 40 percent year-on-year drop in underlying profit during the first half this year due to reduced contributions from the health and beauty segment, Maxim's and convenience stores, it said in a statement. Maxim's shops and restaurants are not covered in the program, according to the group.
Members of the app can earn member points and rebates in over 2,000 restaurants and retail chain stores in Hong Kong, including Wellcome, Mannings, 7-Eleven, Market Place, and Ikea, said the company. Those using a yuu enJoy Card by Hang Seng Bank (0011) at restaurants including KFC, Pizza Hut, and PHD can also get fourfold member points.
Customers can register for the membership through the app directly or by registering with phone numbers and Octopus cards at the retail chain stores. They can also become a member through the WeChat mini-program, said Marjorie Law, head of communications of North Asia group corporate and consumer affairs at Dairy Farm.
