MTR Corporation (0066) carried about 110 million passengers in June, the highest monthly number this year and up 13.46 percent from May, data from the company showed.
The figure dropped 19.07 percent from a year ago, easing a 31.9 percent year-on-year decrease in May.
The daily average passenger number was 3.99 million in June, sliding 17 percent from a year before and 16 percent higher than that in May.
The MTRC's airport express recorded a passenger number of 177,000 last month, plunging 87 percent from a year ago, but it was 13.4 percent higher than that of May. The company recorded cross-boundary passengers of 44,000 in June, a 99.5 percent drop compared with a year earlier.
In other news, Cathay Pacific Airways (0293) received more than 99.9 percent of shareholders' votes for a restructuring plan to raise HK$39 billion through warrant subscription and a rights issue, which will be supported by the government.
Shares of MTRC slid 1.38 percent to HK$39.20, while Cathay's shares rose 2.06 percent to HK$6.94 yesterday.
